Living A Life Of Purpose and Impact

By Pastor Ibukun Segun-Abugan

You Are Created For A Purpose

Jeremiah 1:5 “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; before you were born I sanctified you; I ordained you a prophet to the nations.”

God is the God of purpose. He created us for something spectacular; set each of us apart for our own individual calling. He did not make a mistake when He made you.

God is the God of plan, He has a wonderful plan to bring you to a desirable end. Even before you were born, God, as an act of predestination, chose you and prepared a divine assignment for you that He might be glorified through it.

Romans 8:29-30 For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren. [30] Moreover whom He predestined, these He also called; whom He called, these He also justified; and whom He justified, these He also glorified.

As a born-again child of God, you are a child of destiny; redeemed to be glorified. You must expect a colorful destiny. God specially called you for a purpose. When that purpose is not known, the abuse of destiny is inevitable.

John 15:16 “You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain, that whatever you ask the Father in My name He may give you.

The purpose for which you were chosen is to bear fruits. This implies that Christ’s purpose in choosing people is not merely that their sins be forgiven and that they have eternal life, but that their lives be fruitful and productive in fulfilling God's purposes, and ultimately letting the world know about Him.

I pray that you will discover your purpose as you read these words.

You Are Created To Have An Impact

Every child of God is created to have an impact in life, family, community and in the body of Christ. Making an impact means being a blessing to those around you and to the world through your God given wisdom, talents and resources.

Isaiah 60:1-3 Arise, shine; For your light has come! And the glory of the LORD is risen upon you. For behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and deep darkness the people; But the LORD will arise over you, and His glory will be seen upon you. The Gentiles shall come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your rising.

The word of God says that when the glory of God comes upon you, gentiles will come to your light and kings to your brightness, meaning you are blessed to impact the gentiles, kings, the unbelievers, and those in authority.
Now is the time! There is darkness in the world but God is lifting His people; we are to impact the world we live in. He said in His word, that we are the salt of the world and the light of the world.

Matthew 5:13-16 “You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men. “You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. “Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven…..”

You Are The Salt Of The Earth

Impact is being the salt. The word “salt” comes from the Greek word “prudence,” which means “wisdom, or wise.” Salt is a preservative, we are sent to be instruments of preservation to people. To do this, we have been given access through the Word to everything we need to season our lives and the lives of others (Isaiah 50:4).
The man Joseph in the Bible, was a man that made impact. He said to his brothers:

Genesis 45:7 “And God sent me before you to preserve a posterity for you in the earth, and to save your lives by a great deliverance…….”

Through his God-given wisdom, Joseph preserved the lives of many, during his time. When we are not functioning as salt or seasoning lives, we are not fulfilling God's will.

You Are The Light Of The Earth

Impact is being the light. Light enables you to see; without it you will not know where to go, and you’ll be prone to accidents.
We are sent to be a light to those around us. We should be the go-to person when people have problems, and the ones to provide solutions in darkness. Matthew 5:16

Jesus Christ Our Example

Acts 10:38 “How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him…….”

Jesus Christ went about doing good and performing healing. He impacted lives physically and spiritually. He provided wine when there was none at a wedding, He fed the five thousand men, provided money to pay for taxes, and healed and delivered mankind. Jesus did not limit the use of His anointing and blessings to His immediate family and His disciples but to those around Him and eventually to the world. We can do the same. 1 Timothy 6:18

It's Your Turn

Impact should be a lifestyle — spontaneous -- an everyday experience. It is not only meant for when things are good and you have a lot of money; it is for all times. In Genesis, Chapter 39-50, we learned about Joseph who became a slave in Potiphar's house. His presence was so prominent that he became in charge. When things turned sour and he was thrown into jail, his impact was felt and he became the head of the prisoners. At his appointed time, he influenced Egypt and the rest of the world. Maybe you’ve been doing this and have become tired and discouraged. This is what the Word of God says:

Galatians 6:9-10 And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith……..”

As you embrace this call of God, know that there is a reward in it, and you will receive yours in Jesus’ Name!
